Now that most of us are working from home, school from home, and binge from home, it’s difficult not to spend hours slouched on the couch, hunkered in a chair, or in bed. All those comfy positions are fine under normal circumstances. These are extraordinary circumstances and now we need to develop different habits to stay healthy. To focus on total health.

Sitting all day and in a position that isn’t supportive affects more than your spine. It leads to obesity, poor heart health, and too much-sitting counters all the hard work you spend exercising. We’ve created a few things for you to develop healthy habits while working from home. You will be able to include the family!

Get up and Move!
For every hour you sit, get up and move 10-15 minutes. Do a lap around the room, a load of laundry, it’s not important what, just do. Dr. Drew even has some stretching exercises for you that are perfect for your break. Get up and move to keep your spine in line. Keep in mind, this shouldn’t replace the 30-60 minutes of regular exercise that you should be doing at least 3 times a week, get out and walk in the neighborhood.

Get up and Stretch!
Speaking of stretching, stretch. There are a lot of free yoga classes online, take one. Spend 10 mins, spend an hour taking a class. Yoga increases muscle strength, tone, and improved breathing! Not to mention increases your energy levels. Try Downward Dog, it’s currently free. It’s a stressful time, anxiety and stress aren’t just affecting your mind, they impact your body as well. The best stress release is a workout, even if you can’t get to the gym! Try an at home workout, hop on Zoom and workout with a buddy! There are a lot of workouts you can try, many trainers are going live on social media with workouts for you. Have you found some a favorite? Leave a comment!

Get up and focus on total health!
It’s easy to dive into that bag of M&M’s or finish the whole pot of coffee. Take the time to eat healthy, to be mindful of what you are snacking on. Drink plenty of water. Eat the M&M’s, let the kids have pizza for dinner, in front of the movie! Balance those with fresh fruit and proteins! It’s about balance. 

It’s an overwhelming and stressful time, it can be difficult to adjust and bring the family with you. Cooking three meals at home, school, and work.
