Chiropractic Care for Neck Pain

Neck Pain Causes and Symptoms

What is Neck Pain?

Our neck is also known as the cervical spine. It begins at the base of our skull and contains seven small vertebrae. Our necks support the full weight of your head, which on average weighs about 12 pounds. Because the neck can move your head in nearly every direction, it makes it very susceptible to pain and injury. Repeated movements, accidents, falls or severe hits to your head or body can cause neck pain, making it very bothersome to our everyday routines.

Neck pain typically shows itself in minor everyday pain, to chronic debilitating pain. Typically, the joints or muscles in your neck become irritated or inflamed, causing a “pain in the neck”.  Common symptoms of neck pain may include:

  • Mild soreness or tenderness
  • Sharp or stabbing pain typically in a concentrated area of the neck
  • Stiff neck with limited motion
  • Radiating pain which can then travel to your shoulders, arms, fingers and head

We have all suffered from occasional neck pain, but sometimes neck pain can be difficult to tolerate. On average, about 17% of the adult population today suffers from neck pain or discomfort. This is typically the result of poor posture, sleeping in an awkward position, a fall or a sports injury or even whiplash. In other cases, neck pain can be the result of abnormalities in growth, possible infections in the body, tumors or even cancer.

Whatever the circumstance, neck pain should not be ignored and should be attended to as quickly as possible. Contact Hawkeye Chiropractic today if you are suffering from neck pain.

Chiropractic Care of Neck Pain

Chiropractic care may be an effective way to manage and relieve the swelling and discomfort caused by neck pain. Hawkeye Chiropractic provides its patients with recommended routine chiropractic care. Our patients with neck pain are invited in to our office for a safe, non-invasive, non-addictive alternative to taking prescription medications or over-the-counter pain medications. Those medications, while sometimes effective are commonly prescribed to patients to help them manage their pain and swelling, but don’t get at the root of the problem.

Hawkeye Chiropractic promises to deliver a gentle, non-addictive therapy, known as a chiropractic adjustment. Chiropractic adjustments help reduce restrictions in your joints or misalignments of the spine as well as other joints in the body. These neck adjustments reduce inflammation and improve function of both the affected joint and nervous system. When you increase the mobility in your joints, you improve the function of your nervous system, which helps your body better manage neck pain you may be having. Patients typically notice an improved ability to tilt or turn their head, and a reduction of pain, soreness, and stiffness in their neck.

Some of the health benefits our patients with neck pain have seen after chiropractic care and chiropractic adjustments are:

  • Increased activity in their lifestyle
  • More flexibility
  • Increased or improved range of motion
  • Decreased inflammation
  • Reduced pain or discomfort
